NFL Trade Grade – Darnold to Carolina

Panthers acquire QB Sam Darnold from Jets

Jets receive 2021 6th-round pick; 2022 2nd- and 4th-round picks

CAROLINA: B

The Panthers got their Quarterback. It’s not Deshaun Watson, but Sam Darnold won’t have nearly the legal trouble facing him. He’s young and has a high ceiling, but the Panthers gave up a lot for an unproven QB. Will he be that much better than Teddy? Let’s be fair to Sam Darnold: He was with a terrible team with a coach who did no favors for his game. So a fresh start with less media scrutiny, might just put him in a better position to succeed.

The rest of the offseason, Darnold needs to work on his hand-off skills, as he’ll be in great position to get the ball to the beast, Christian McAffrey, who he’ll love having behind him.

NEW YORK:  A

The Jets are eerily starting to make smart moves out at the Meadowlands and there’s new life for the organization. And while the Sam Darnold experiment is far from over, clearing him and picking up three draft picks in the process, is the absolute right move. The Jets will be much improved next season with a new coach and Zach Wilson coming in as the future of the franchise.
